Launched in 2015, the Bubble sofa is characterised by a rounded, organic silhouette without straight edges or sharp angles. Its form, enveloping, cushion-like, built around a cocooning geometry, made it one of the most recognisable pieces in Roche Bobois’s catalogue and a reference point in contemporary furniture design. Over the decade since its release, it has appeared in gallery installations, editorial shoots, and interior design publications worldwide.

Bubble Book, edited by Flammarion in May 2026, is Sacha Lakic’s first return, in writing, to the making of this piece. For the first time, he shares the original sketches and construction drawings that defined the sofa’s design language from the very first line, mood boards, material explorations, the iterative process of refining a form that had to feel as inevitable as it looked. The manufacturing challenges are laid bare too: pushing the limits of foam technology and upholstery craft to achieve curves that held their shape without stiffness, surfaces that invited touch without sacrificing structure.

The book maps the Bubble’s defining qualities with clarity: organic and fluid, sensual and enveloping, sculptural in its ambition to function as both object and artwork. And it asks what it means for a sofa to outlast its moment and to enter the visual vocabulary of a generation.
