INFORMATIONS
At the International Space Summit held in Paris on September 9-10, 2026, Venturi Space unveiled ALTA LUNA, a compact personal lunar mobility vehicle designed for proximity operations around future lunar bases. This purposefully engineered astromobile represents a new chapter in specialized lunar transportation.
With a target mass of just 300 kg, ALTA LUNA prioritizes maneuverability and operational efficiency in the constrained environment surrounding lunar habitats. The vehicle features a tracked chassis architecture—a first for Venturi’s lunar programs—enabling exceptional obstacle-crossing performance and the ability to climb steeper slopes than wheeled alternatives.
ALTA LUNA operates in dual modes: crewed, with an astronaut aboard, or fully autonomous. In autonomous mode, it leverages LiDAR, stereo cameras, and artificial intelligence to navigate and execute complex tasks including excavation, site preparation, cargo transport, and infrastructure development. Multiple units can coordinate seamlessly, pooling resources for demanding operations. Safety is embedded into the design. Onboard electronics connect directly to the astronaut’s suit, monitoring vital health data.
Should an emergency arise, ALTA LUNA can autonomously return the astronaut to base. The vehicle shares Venturi Space’s proven battery and power management systems—the same technologies integrated into the CLV-1 rover, selected by NASA for Artemis missions.
